Grantmaking

“The organizing method relies on members identifying the root causes of problems and then working together in activities that result in systematic change.“

BWF’s primary Mission is to provide seed money, program support, and ongoing funding for women and girls-led, community-based organizations in the Greater Boston area. Through grantmaking, BWF provides opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and gain confidence in their leadership abilities, while organizing their peers and making their voices heard in public policy debates and educating their communities about root causes and just solutions, which will affect their lives.

BWF’s multi-cultural, community-based, grantmaking process is informed by our diverse, volunteer-based Allocations Committee. This is a key component of our social change grantmaking model, which ensures that those most affected by injustice take the lead and work together to create solutions. Because of BWF’s unique grantmaking, emerging social change groups are able to expand, and effective organizations which are neglected by mainstream funding sources continue to contribute to the integral base for social justice.
